Latvia
has
a Sister Library
- South East Area
Health Education Center Health Sciences Library
in Wilmington, North Carolina, USA
 Donna Flake,
Director of the South East Area
Health Education Center Health Sciences Library, Wilmington, North Carolina, USA, has organized and
implemented Medical Libraries Association's Sister Library
Partnership with our library.
Donna Flake unselfishly devotes her time, knowledge, excellent
abilities as an organizer to support our library and to help us
to become better, more professional, and to obtain new
knowledge.
The first International Cooperation Section Award was presented
to Donna Flake in recognition of her dedication and outstanding
service and leadership in international cooperation and outreach.
Within the charity support action "THE GOOD STAR"
D.Flake has received an official acknowledgement, as a thank for
the good deeds that she has done for the people in Latvia.

Our relationship started in 1999 when
the International Cooperation Section
of the Medical Library Association of USA started
the Sister Library
Project and our library became a sister library to
Association of Medical Libraries of USA. |
| Activities of the Project till April, 2003 |
US, Canadian medical libraries and
companies have donated books and journals to our library.
The
Latvian Welfare Associations of Milwaukee or Cleveland have boxed up the materials, shipped them to Latvia, and
paid
for the shipping. Special thanks go to the organization
"Daugavas Vanadzes", Mirdza Zoltners, Skaidrite and Arvids Pavels,
Livija Carlson, Sylvia Melkers, Mara Beldavs, and Mirdza Krauklis in
Milwaukee, to the Reverend Grendze and Astrida Jansons in Cleveland, and
to Astra Iesalnieks in Lincoln, Dr. Edite Balkus
Walter. We thank Zaiga
Alksne
Phillips,
Roger and Silvija Hoag,
Ruta M.Bekeris for the donation of medical literature and
shiping to library. |

New shipment |
US and Canadian medical libraries have
provided the
free document delivery in electronic form. |
The library
has received databases. |
|
The
started project activities proceed. The international relations are established
and strengthened between the MLL and Latvian organizations, private
persons as well as medical libraries from USA, Canada. US and Canadian medical libraries
continue to
provide the
free document delivery in electronic form.
The Latvian organization Daugavas Vanadzes continues to receive
books and journals from US medical Libraries and ship them to Latvia.
We received the last
shipment in 15 December 2008. |
